That’s totally fine. Each one of us should live our lives the best way we know. Not all of us can be absolute mad lads and drop $300+ on the ultimate pod coffee maker that can mow the lawn, give financial advice, and make an amazing cup of coffee. Okay, maybe just one of those three.
So, is the Keurig K475 worth it?
Touch Me, Touch Me, I Wanna Feel Your Touchscreen…
Oka, so the K250 has a touchscreen – why should you care? Well, this one has COLOR. It might sound like a trivial addition, but it’s one that you will learn to appreciate very quickly.
The interface is very intuitive and it will not take long for you to figure out what’s what. But upgrade that with a different color for different features – do you see where I’m going with this? It’s a lot easier for your brain to register colors than numbers, and since each different type of pod has its color, you don’t have to think too much about what you’re pressing. And you can change the wallpaper – because, why not.
And if you’re completely useless without a gallon of coffee in your system, you’ll find two features that are there to make your life easier. First, the “auto-on” option that allows you to set your Keurig to wake up with you. Pop a pod in the night before, set the time, done.
The second is the “preferred brew settings”. Once you start playing with the machine, you’ll find “brewing numbers”. You can customize each one by selecting the pod type, serving size, and the strength of the brew. Then you can use them as a shortcut when you’re going through caffeine withdrawals.
You’ll also find the high altitude setting in here, so your coffee maker can work properly in your neck of the woods.
…In a Case Made of Steel, Made of Stone.
Ok, not really. The body is made out of plastic and has that matte black and silver look. The silhouette is very similar to the original Keurig concepts, but with a tiny facelift.
On the left side is a completely removable 70-ounce water reservoir, and you would be happy to know that the water level is fully visible from the front. And the drip tray is completely removable so you can fit the travel mug or carafe of choice under the spout.
Oh, you think I missed something? Yes, that was supposed to be the place where I complain about the position of the water tank and how difficult it is to refill it, nag, nag, nag… But one of the designers at Keurig must have read my mind and added a convenient lid so you can refill the tank while it’s still attached to the machine. The only time you’ll have to remove it is when you need to replace the water filter.
Yeah, it comes with a water filter holder, and it uses standard coffee maker filters that you can pick up anywhere.
Surprisingly, the machine is not that big – it takes just an inch or so more than most of the older models. But it is pretty hefty – at almost 13 pounds you can use it to either “feed” an army, or to pummel it into oblivion.
Cleaning of the machines from this generation is made even easier because of this tiny little tool you’ll find in the box – please don’t throw it ways mindlessly, it wants to be your new best friend.
Coffee Is a Battlefield…
If you fell in love with the Keurig K250 and its ability to brew full carafes, get ready for the Keurig K475 to – dun, dun, dun – do the same. Though this guy can give you a 12-ounce serving with a K-mug and a classic K-cup. For those keeping the score, that makes it 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-ounce servings with K-cups, 12, 14, and 16 ounces with K-mugs, and 22, 26, or 30 ounces with K-carafes. All classic brands and flavors are available in all three formats.
Selecting the serving size is still pretty much all you have to do to start brewing. If you want your coffee to be stronger, select the option “strong”.
And if you are brewing hot chocolate or other drinks, select “hot chocolate/other”. Yeah, I know it’s difficult, but you’ll figure it out.
Your drink will be ready in under a minute. And, since this machine is really built to go the distance, it consistently produces good coffee cup after cup, after cup, after cup.
When you register your machine after purchase, Keurig will send you a special “thank you”. You can also access some amazing savings when you buy the cups directly from them.
You can also use a reusable eco pod with this machine, but you will have to get the one from Keurig – the K475 tends to throw a bit of a tantrum if you try to use a no-name one.
Now, let’s look at the Pros & Cons of Keurig K475:
This is an ultimate must-have coffee maker for a real Keurig fan. It’s also Heaven-sent for ultimate control freaks. But if you simply want it just because you want it… Well, I hope you don’t have any student loans that should be a priority.
