Coffee Smoothie Recipe – How to Make an AWESOME coffee smoothie at home!

Coffee Smoothie Recipe

“Oh, I simply get energized every morning by drinking my super-detox triple-green smoothie every morning!”

Shut up, K… Sharon. Nice lie you have there, goes great with that haircut. We all know that no one who is remotely normal doesn’t get to open their eyes without at least 3 gallons of coffee. And if they do, they should be sent to Hague!

That being said, you can make an awesome smoothie that will give you that energy kick in the morning.

There is a secret ingredient and you’ll never guess what it is…

The Coffee

In each coffee smoothie recipe, we’ll use fresh coffee grounds, not brewed coffee. This way you’ll get the maximum flavor, and if you don’t think you can handle it, go for the finest grind you can get.

In terms of the roast and type of coffee, it’s up to you and what your taste buds prefer. It’s best to go with something you like to drink without adding and ocean of creamer and sugar to it.

Coffee is very similar to cocoa in terms of nutrition and culinary potential. Just note that it will have a little bit more fat and a whole lot more caffeine.

A Word on Portions

I subscribe to the hand method of portion control. Why? Because it’s perfect. If you have hands, you have all the information on serving sizes of each food item. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, find out more!

So, a quick translation tip – when I say serving, consult the infographic.

We’re cool? We’re cool.

Banoffee Coffee Smoothie Recipe

Okay, a small case of false advertising since the “offee” here doesn’t come from toffee. Still as delicious though.

This one is a great way for you to tip your toes in the water and see if this genre of smoothies or coffee drinks (depends on which camp you’re comping from) is right for you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of ground coffee (or adjust to taste).
  • Banana.
  • 1 serving of silken tofu.
  • A serving of regular or plant milk (oat milk is highly recommended because of all that beta-glucan action).
  • 1 teaspoon of melted cocoa butter (food grade, duh).
  • A few drops of vanilla extract.
  • A pinch of salt.

Add banana and tofu to the jug, then follow up with the milk, coffee, cocoa butter, vanilla, and salt. Blend until smooth.

Why Does It Work?

Bananas are a great source of potassium and magnesium, as well as fiber and slow-release energy.

Tofu is packed with protein while being very low in calories. It’s also an aroma sponge and amplifier. Also, it will do a great job of making the whole mixture super creamy.

Cocoa butter will bring some extra fatty goodness to the party, but it will also serve as a thickener once it cools down.

Advance prep – Obviously, you can freeze bananas in advance, but if you are freezing tofu, blend it first with the milk and cocoa butter. If you chuck it as it is into the freezer, ice crystals will form and you’ll lose all creaminess.

NOtella Coffee Smoothie Recipe

Everyone loves Nutella. If you don’t, keep it to yourself unless you want to end up on an FBI watchlist.

The flavor will not be 100% identical. If I have to say, it reminds me more of one of those chocolate-hazelnut truffles. You don’t know what I’m talking about? Oh, you poor creature, what have you been doing with your life until now?

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon ground coffee (adjust to taste).
  • A serving of roasted hazelnut butter (see below).
  • 1 serving of tofu (silken or firm, ladies’ choice).
  • A serving of regular or plant milk (hazelnut milk, anyone?).
  • 1 or 2 pitted dates, to taste.
  • A few drops of vanilla extract.
  • A pinch of salt.

Add dates, tofu, and hazelnut butter to the jug, then follow up with the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth.

Coffee Smoothie Recipe Nutella

Why Does It Work?

Hazelnuts are packed with some fantastic nutrients, including all those healthy fats that are good for your Brian… I mean, braid… I mean, BRAIN.

Dates are rich in minerals and fiber, as well as slow-release sugars that will provide you with energy throughout the whole morning.

Tofu did not change its protein-iness, but you can replace it with a banana if you want more sweetness and less… tofu.

Advance prep – You might have missed it, but roasted hazelnut butter is not something that you will find sitting on a shelf in every grocery store. You will most likely have to make your own.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

Arrange in a single layer of hazelnuts on the baking sheet. Toast until they turn brown and the kitchen turns stinky in a pleasant way – about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Transfer the nuts onto a clean kitchen towel and wrap them. This will steam them a bit while they’re cooling down. Then use the same towel to remove the skins by rubbing.

Chuck the hazelnuts in the blender or food processor, and blend until they turn into nut butter. You may wrap individual portions and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

So, it’s time to go a bit healthier. Don’t worry, it will be just a tiny bit.

Full disclosure – I hate beetroots. They were mean to me when I was a kid, and I’m yet to forgive them. That being said, I like them here just fine.

Ingredients:

  • A tablespoon of ground coffee (adjust to taste)
  • 1 serving of steamed beetroot.
  • A serving of yogurt.
  • 1 serving of cashew or almond butter.
  • 1 serving of regular or plant milk.
  • 2 pitted dates, to taste.
  • A few drops of vanilla extract.
  • A pinch of salt.

Place the beetroot, dates, yogurt and nut butter in the jug, then follow with the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth.

Beetroot Coffee

Why Does It Work?

Beetroot, though it may be a very evil creature, is full of minerals and antioxidants. Regular consumption may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol while boosting brain health and energy levels. It’s also considered an aphrodisiac, so go ahead, make two servings of the smoothie.

Yogurt is an amazing source of calcium as well as gut-friendly probiotic culture.

Advance prep – You can steam the beetroot in advance then portion and freeze it. If you want to steam the beetroot in the microwave, slice it up thinly with a mandoline or the slicer attachment that came with your food processor. Place in a bowl and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Microwave on high for one minute, then leave to cool down before removing the wrap.

You can also make your own nut butter, portion it, and freeze it for up to 3 months.

And that’s about it for our coffee smoothie recipe! Hope you enjoy it!
